The Group

Balkalé brings together 4 musicians with rich and diverse musical backgrounds.

This young quartet takes inspiration from traditional and popular music from Eastern Europe, klezmer, as well as classical and jazz music. Their repertoire crosses the bucolic villages of Romania, passing through the Balkans with frenzied Serbian dance rhythms with virtuosic melodies, all mixed with original compositions and surprising soundscapes.

Fresh and twirling phrases from the violin, a wonderful guitar embellished with classical and jazz influences, Balkalé takes us through styles and through time, transporting us to the homes of great composers of the past, passing through villages and towns where the buzz of acoustic dance music was in the air every single night.
